Healthy Skin And Coat

There are so many different dog foods and shampoos on the market. It’s hard trying to decide which one is the best for your Boston Terrier. They all promise different things: energy formulas, allergy formulas, healthy skin and coat formula, longevity formulas, joint formulas, etc. So which one is best for your pup? Boston Terrier’s have very dry skin, but not to worry, their skin can be treated a couple of different ways. You can either focus on feeding your dog special foods that help with her dry skin internally or you can concentrate on what you bathe her with. Or better yet … do both! Healthy Skin From the Inside Out I’ve spoken with several Boston Terrier lovers that have tried different foods to help with their Boston’s dry skin. Here they are: • Sheep fat (may not be available in the US) • Teaspoon of corn oil • Teaspoon of fish oil • A can of tuna in oil, drained Personally, I feed Lucy Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish Formula. It is designed for dogs with allergies, dogs like Boston Terriers. Boston’s can be allergic to grains and fillers, so try to avoid the cheaper lower-quality foods. I’ve never had an issue with Lucy’s coat so I stick with Natural Balance; however, there are tons of high-quality dog foods on the market to choose from … so shop around until you find a good one! Rub-A-Dub-Dub Boston In The Tub The most important thing to note about bathing your Boston Terrier, is that you shouldn’t do it too often. Once a week, or even once every two weeks is plenty! I bathe my dog once a week because I take her to the dog park every weekend and she’s a mess after that. Choose a gentle shampoo for your Boston. I use an Oatmeal shampoo from Hartz, it’s cheap and it gets the job done. You can also use baby shampoo on your Boston- this won’t dry out their skin too much! If you ever notice bumps on your dogs back, this could be dry skin flakes or it could be an allergy. Boston Terrier’s can develop these bumps from wet grass. So if your Boston goes out to play or goes for a walk in the wet grass, make sure to dry her off thoroughly when play-time is over. If the problem persists, make sure to consult with your vet about it. If you have any more questions, I would be happy to try and answer them for you just leave a comment below.
