Well, Lucy’s on week 3 of the Eukanuba 28-Day Challenge, and so far so good!

This week she’s been eating a little less than normal which makes me think that she’s getting enough nutrition in a smaller amount of food.

She was a healthy weight before starting the challenge and so nothing has really changed as far as that goes.

Her breath has improved and her coat, nails, eyes, ears, and teeth all seem to be doing just fine. She wasn’t really having trouble with them before, but she is still in good shape!

She’s a very active 3 year old dog and still has the energy she did when she was on Blue Buffalo.

I will be wrapping up the challenge the beginning of next week so stay tuned for more updates!

So the much anticipated Eukanuba challenge has begun! Last Friday afternoon I came home from work to find 2 big bags of Eukanuba Small Breed Adult formula at the front door. Lucy was certainly excited about it … she sniffed out the box before I even got it open!

Labor Day weekend is right around the corner guys … and it’s a great opportunity for you and your Boston Terrier to do something fun!

Plan a Picnic

Picnics are tons of fun! And lots of parks allow dogs to tag along. Just be sure to check with the park before finalizing plans and remember if your dog doesn’t do well in crowds, it may not be a good idea.

Barbeque in the Backyard

Barbeques are also a ton of fun and very common on Labor Day.  Invite your friends and their dogs over to cook- out, go for a swim and celebrate the end of summer (and a day off work)!

Doggy Beach!

If you live near a beach- look into whether the beach has an area where dogs are allowed to play! What better way to spend Labor Day than at the beach with your Boston Terrier?!

Just remember, if you plan to spend a lot of time outside this Labor Day, make sure you bring plenty of drinking water, food, and shade. Boston Terriers are especially prone to breathing problems in extreme heat.

2010′s Most Popular & Unusual Dog Names Revealed

The nation’s oldest and largest provider of pet health insurance has revealed that Bella the most popular dog name among it’s customers for the second year running.

Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) analyzed the names of the pets of more than half a million customers to come up with a list of the most popular. After 6 years at the top, Max was knocked off the top spot in the 2009 list and Bella became the most popular name for dogs – a phenomenon VPI calls the “Twilight Effect”, because of the character Bella Swan in the vampire-themes movies. While Bella has retained the number one spot, the name Max decreased further in popularity and was replaced by Bailey as the second most popular dog name.

“We know that nearly half of pet owners today view their pets as a part of their family,” said Curtis Steinhoff, director of Corporate Communications at VPI. “Given that pets are considered family members, it makes sense that pet owners are selecting human-oriented names like Max or Charlie.”

Of the nearly half a million pets insured by VPI, only 13 were named “Fido”, reflecting the current trend of owners giving their pets human names. Nearly every dog name on VPI’s Top Ten Dog Names list doubles as a popular human name. The company also wanted to find out the most unusual dog names in the company’s database. VPI employees selected 50 unusual dog names and voted for the 10 most unusual. They voted “Pickle Von Corndog” as the most unusual, followed by (in descending order): “Lord Chubby Pruneface”, “Badonkadonnk”, “Ninjastar Dangerrock”, “Molly McBoozehound”, “Dog Vader”, “Flopsy Squeakerton”, “Bettie Poops”, “Geez Louise” and “Barnaby Bones”.

Dog toys are getting pretty expensive these days … along with pretty much everything else!

So today I thought it’d be fun and helpful to write about something that will help you keep more money in your pocket, and keep your dog happy and entertained!

One of the great things about Boston Terriers is that they’ll pretty much play with anything.

So here are the instructions on how to create a simple, fun, homemade dog toy that will keep your dog entertained for hours!

All you’ll need is a pretty long piece of rope (about 10 feet), a tennis ball, and a drill.

Once you’ve gathered your materials, just follow these simple instructions below:

Homemade Dog Toy Instructions:

1. Drill a hole straight through a tennis ball, so there’s a hole on each side.
2. Thread your rope through the ball.
3. Use a match or torch to burn the edges of the rope to prevent it from fraying.
4. Tie a simple knot on top of the ball and tie another knot at the end of the rope.

Of course, this is an incredibly simple toy, but we all know that dogs tend to take pleasure in the small things in life.

This toy can provide hours of entertainment and plenty of exercise! It’s also a great dog toy to use indoors too, since you can hold on to the rope and throw it. You don’t have to be as concerned about breaking things!

Summer’s rapidly approaching, and so is the warm weather. So today, I wanted to pass along this dog recipe that will help keep your Boston Terrier cool and refreshed, and will have him worshipping the ground you walk on!

Of course doggie ice cream is available in the freezer section at grocery stores now a days, but that’s just not as much fun. Doggie ice cream is super easy and inexpensive to make at home!

Here’s What You Need

3-4 ripe bananas
32 ounces plain yogurt (low fat, if you’re watching your dog’s weight)
1 cup peanut butter (organic is better for your dog!)
Ice cube trays

The great thing about this recipe is that really only takes about a minute to make.

Just toss your ingredients into the blender until everything is mixed well and you have a smooth consistency. Next, pour the mix into ice cube trays. This recipe makes about 5 or 6 trays. But, if you don’t want to make that much doggie ice cream, you can always cut the recipe in half.

Leave the trays in the freezer for a few hours, and before you know it, your ice cream will be ready to go!

Serve these scrumptious doggie ice cream treats to your Boston Terrier and all his friends!
