Do you spend a lot of time grooming and bathing your dog so she’ll get compliments when you take her out in public?

If you want to ensure that your Boston Terrier’s coat will always look top of the line, just follow these five simple steps.

1. Keep your dog healthy!
Usually the first sign of poor health is a poor looking coat. Many times dogs experience thinning hair or dandruff when there’s something going on internally.

2. Feed your dog high quality dog food.
Make sure you’re feeding your dog a high-quality dog food that has plenty of Omega 3 Fatty acids. Look for a food that contains a Omega 6:3 ratio. This is such a simple step that often goes overlooked.

3. Perform regular health checks.
Make sure to check your dog for parasites on a regular basis. Worms, fleas, and ticks can cause your dog’s coat to lose its luster and quality. Your vet will most likely perform a fecal exam to check for parasites and you should have your dog on a flea prevention program as well. Have your vet check for allergies as well.

4. Regular Grooming
Always comb your dog before bathing him. Luckily, Boston Terrier’s don’t have long hair so brushing them is not that difficult. You may not think it’s necessary to comb your dog, but it’s good to do anyways as brushing/combing removes dead surface hair.

5. Regular Bathing
Use a shampoo that was designed for dogs. If you use people products on your dog, you may dry out your dogs’ coat. And make sure to rinse really well! Soap residue causes flaking and dullness.

Stick to these 5 simple steps and your Boston terrier will be looking and feeling good for a long time!

These dental dog treats are not only delicious, but they also help exercise your dog’s gums and clean her teeth. I found this recipe over at Best-Dog-Treat-Recipes.com. They have a lot of great recipes, so feel free to check them out.

Ingredients

1/4 cup honey

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

1 cup white flour

1/2 cup cornmeal

¼ cup spinach powder

1/2 cup oats

1/4 cup bran

1 T bone meal

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 cups water

1 teaspoon peppermint extract

Directions

Mix everything with a mixer in a large bowl or place everything in your bread maker.

If you are using a bread maker, set it for the dough cycle.

When the dough is mixed, divide it into several equal balls.

Roll the dough to a ¼” thickness.

Use small cookie cutters to cut into shapes. The ones that I use are about 1” across.

Bake at 300 degrees F for about 45 minutes. Check to make sure that the biscuits don’t get too dark.

Turn off the oven and let them continue to dry overnight or for several hours.

Your finished product should come out very hard, and should not move at all when you press your finger into it. It’s good for the treats to be hard because it will help remove built-up tartar.

Feed your dog hard, crispy treats on a regular basis in order to maintain good dental hygiene. It’s also best to avoid feeding your dog table scraps. Human food often contains sugar and other substances that aren’t good for our pets.

Also, make sure to brush your dog’s teeth on a regular basis to keep her pearly whites, white!

If you have another dog treat recipe of your own, please feel free to share it. Either send me an email or post it in the comments section below!

Walks are one of my daily battles with Lucy. Every time she sees a cat, bird, or lizard she starts pulling! But everyday I work on it, and so should you!

You may want to address some basic training issues first, and then Cesar Milan says in order to prevent this behavior, we should establish ourselves as the pack leader. Here are a few of Cesar’s tips to ensure pack-leader status when you’re walking your dog:

Walk In Front

Make sure that you are leading your dog when you walk him. Your dog should not be walking in front of you. This goes for walking in and out of doors as well. You should always lead, and your dog should always follow.

Use A Short Leash

A shorter leash, offers more control and will allow you to correct your dog’s behavior more easily. Cesar recommends the illusion collar.

Consider The Length Of Your Walk

Dogs like to be walked in the morning. You should try and make morning walks anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

Set The Tone Of Your Walk

Make your dog walk properly for a few minutes before allowing him to sniff around and relieve himself. Once your dog has the right “mindset” for the walk, allow him to have his fun!

Maintain Your Leadership Status

When you get home, continue to be the pack leader. Your dog should wait for you to put away the leash, take off your shoes, etc.

Reward Your Dog For A Job Well Done

Reward your dog with food and water after a good walk. This will give him the idea that he must “work” for food.

If you have any dog walking tips, or other useful training tips, please feel free to share them by leaving a comment in the form below! Also, please take some time to introduce your Boston terrier, I would love to meet him/her!

Happy dog walking!

What You’ll Need:

Whole wheat flour (2 cups)

Chicken or beef broth (2/3 cup)

Large egg (1)

Quick cooking oats (3 tbsp.)

What To Do:

Crack your egg in a large mixing bowl, and beat lightly.

Next, stir in the chicken/beef broth.

Stir in your whole wheat flour.

Mix in the oats.

Spoon the dough onto a microwave safe plate, trying to keep it in round balls. (Leave some space between the balls so they don’t stick together.)

Microwave each plateful on high for 10 minutes.

That’s all there is to it! Easy, right? Just make sure to let the treats cool before serving to your Boston terrier!

When your dog begs for food it’s usually harmless. But it’s also extremely off-putting …

Who wants to eat a delicious meal, with their dog sitting right next to them drooling, wishing that today is the day you’ll accidentally drop a piece of your food.

Why They Do It

You may think it’s in their nature. Eh, wrong!

It’s not natural for dogs to beg from their pack leaders. Begging’s something they learn throughout their lives. Either a previous owner, or someone in your family has taught your dog that when he begs for food, he gets a reward.

Prevent Begging From Ever Being An Issue

If you have a puppy that you are working on training right now, you should develop a routine with him or her.

Every time you sit down for a meal you should either crate your dog or put him/her in another room.

How to Stop Begging That’s Already Started

If you’re reading this post, it’s probably too late to prevent your dog from begging. You’re looking for a fix! And unfortunately you have a lot of work ahead of you. And you must be persistent in your efforts.

Tips to Prevent Begging

1. Crate your dog during meal times

2. Feed your dog at the same time you eat dinner. This will keep him preoccupied with his dinner, so he can’t ruin yours. J If you’re not able to do this, give him a toy or something else that will keep him distracted!

3. If your dog tries to come near you while you’re eating, tell him to go lay down, go to his crate, or leave the room.

4. Make sure everyone in the family is on board. It only takes one delinquent to ruin your training regimen.

5. Never give in to begging – Ever.

Finishing Thoughts

Remember, Boston terriers can be very stubborn, but you’re just going to out-stubborn your little one! And don’t be surprised if your dog’s behavior gets worse before it gets better. Your dog expects to get food from you when he begs, so when this pattern stops all of a sudden, he may grow even more persistent. Not to worry though, your dog will eventually give up.

Reminder: Punishment is never appropriate. Dogs don’t understand why they are being punished and he’ll end up being confused, which may cause him to act out.

Words Of Wisdom:

If you have any more things that Boston terriers hate, feel free to add to the list in the comments section below … Enjoy!

1. Blaming your farts on them.

2. Yelling at them for barking … THEY’RE DOGS PEOPLE!

3. Taking them for walks, and then not letting them explore on the walk.

4. Tricks that involve balancing food on their nose!

5. Haircuts that involve bows and ribbons.

6. The fake fetch throw. You fooled a dog! What a proud moment for the top of the food chain.

7. Taking your dog to the vet for “the big snip”, then acting surprised when they freak out on return visits.

8. Getting mad when they jump on guests. They haven’t quite mastered that handshake thing.

9. Acting disgusted when they lick themselves.

10. Dog sweaters. Have you noticed the fur?

Hello all my Boston terrier lovers! I found these lists on-line and would like to pass them along to you!

To All Non Dog Owners Who Complain About Our Pets

1.	They live here. You don’t.
2.	If you don’t like their hair on your clothing, then stay off the furniture.
3.	I like my pets better than I like most people.
4.	To you, it’s an animal. To me, he or she is an adopted son or daughter who is hairy, short, walks on all fours and doesn’t speak clearly.

Why Dogs Are Better Than Kids

1.	Eat less.
2.	Usually come when called.
3.	Easier to train.
4.	Don’t ask for money all the time.
5.	Don’t drink or smoke.
6.	Don’t hang out with friends who drink or smoke.
7.	Never ask to drive the car.
8.	Don’t need to have the latest fashions.
9.	Don’t want to borrow your clothes.
10.	Don’t need a money for college, and …
11.	If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

If you agree with these let me know! Leave a comment
