my vet and vet eye specialist feel my boston has suffered a detached retina,no obvious reason apparent. Is this common? Any info on causes, treatments, outcome. live in W PA – closest place to take dog. Thanks P W Sturm MD

Hi Patrick,

Sorry to hear about your Boston’s vision. Check out this article about detached retinas in dogs. Your dog can still have plenty of good times! Hope this helps.

Hi Colleen and Lucy,
I LOVE Bostons too! I hope you don’t mind my post today about spaying and neutering, I appreciate your objectivity but I feel to strongly about it not to also share my views. I’ve been in rescue too long not to believe every dog should be spayed/neutered.

Anyway, You’ve got a great website and I thought I would write since I involved with a dog-rescue related project you might be interested in writing about. I’m a Boston mom and foster mom, and I recently started a book company that published breed-specific and region-specific books that showcase adopted dogs and generate donations for rescue groups. The first book we published this year was about Bostons, and the profits go back to Boston rescue groups.

The Happy Tails Books website is http://happytailsbooks.com. You can see a preview of the book there. Could you please help us spread the word?

Woof!

Happy Thanksgiving Kyla!

Of course I don’t mind your comment about spaying! I checked out the Happy Tails website and it looks very interesting and I would love to write about it, maybe sometime next week. I’ll be in touch with you via email if I need any more info from you!

Thanks! Colleen and Lucy!

Kyla- Just wanted to keep you posted. I wrote an article about your site: http://www.bostonterriersecrets.com/boston-terrier-news/inspiring-story-of-a-rescued-boston-terrier. Let me know what you think and if you want me to make any changes, etc.

Great site but FYI…Your statement of “The AKC doesn’t recognize colored Boston Terriers − such as red/liver, chocolate, or blue” is incorrect. I have a 2 year old Boston Terrier that is AKC registered as blue & white and 2 others (sisters) that are registered as liver & white. While not acceptable in the show ring, they are absolutely recoginzed by the AKC. You may want to contact Tina in the “colors” department at AKC to clarify. My intention is not to criticize but to educate. Have a great day. ~Tamara

i have a boston that is 63 days pregnant…I don’t know if I should be worried that she hasn’t had her puppies yet.

Hi Christi,

Has your Boston terrier seen the vet? If she’s seen the vet and everything checked out okay, you shouldn’t be alarmed. Here are 2 articles that you might find helpful though. Good luck with the puppies and I hope everything works out fabulously. Send me an update once your Boston gives birth if you get a chance! I know you’re probably going to have your hands full!

we have puppies…3 to be exact…Two girls and a boy…They were born Jan. 19 by C-Section due to complications…The father is a pit bull and the puppies were almost two to the three times the size that they should have been…

Hello,
I was just wondering you or anyone else has any good dog treat recipes. My Boston, Pepper isn’t too picky. I have looked on the web but the amount is overwhelming. Also, has anyone ever tried making their own dog food? There was a recipe that just consisted of ground beef veggies and brown rice. Would that be enough nutrients for my Boston?

Thanks,
Paula

Hey Paula,

I found this recipe online that looks good to me. I haven’t tried it yet, but hopefully this weekend I’ll get around to it! Peanut Butter and Oats Glazed Cookies

I’ve never made my own dog food, but that might be fun to try too. Sounds like a lot of work though!

Good luck, and let me know if you decide to try the recipe.
